The ballistic separator (also called ballistic screen) is a solid waste sorting machine that enables effective separation of waste based on the different physical characteristics of the materials.
This separation, called gravimetric separation, is a central operation in the workflow of a waste sorting line: in fact, it allows an undifferentiated stream to be divided into two or three distinct streams automatically, without the presence of human operators.
The ballistic separator is composed of a series of parallel paddles (from 4 to 16 paddles, in modules of 4, depending on the input material flow rate) equipped with orbital motion and arranged at a variable angle to the horizontal (from 11° to 20°).
The motion of the blades subjects the incoming waste to a strong shaking: the materials have different physical characteristics (weight, shape, surface) and therefore assume different trajectories as a result of the motion of the blades and the inclination of the screening plane.
The ballistic separator allows the material flow to be classified into three fractions:
The types of waste that can be screened with the ballistic separator are:
Plastic
waste
Bottles
and flacons
Paper
and cardboard
Sorted
municipal waste

The output streams that can thus be obtained from a ballistic separator are typically three:

Depending on the presence of sieving holes on the surface of the ballistic paddles, you can choose whether to obtain the third output. The type and size of the holes (typically grating with 50×50 mm mesh) are fully customizable.

Using the Parini ballistic separator for waste sorting offers numerous advantages, both in terms of productivity and maintenance.
Thanks to ongoing research and development and over twenty years of experience, we manufacture ballistic separators designed to withstand over 40,000 operating hours, ensuring our customers a fast return on investment.
With more than 220 machines installed on every continent, references across various types of incoming waste, and the widest product range on the market (from 1.4 to 5.7 meters working width), the Parini ballistic separator is recognized as the top-performing machine on the market in terms of cost/performance.
Parini ballistic separators are categorized based on the number of paddles, which determines the screening surface and the material throughput handled by the separator.

Our ballistic separators are designed, manufactured, and assembled based on the customer’s specific needs. The main components are standard and modular, ensuring fast delivery and readily available spare parts.
Various loading solutions for incoming waste can be implemented (with different types of conveyor belts, feeding from the back or the top of the machine; with vibrating tables), as well as discharge solutions for the selected fractions (hoppers or, when integrated with an optical sorter, direct discharge of the 2D fraction onto an acceleration belt).
We offer a wide range of accessories and configuration options.
