DRUM
SCREEN

A drum screen-also called a trommel-is a solid waste sorting machine that allows efficient separation of waste by material size.

This separation, called dimensional separation, is a central operation in the workflow of a waste sorting line: in fact, it allows the main waste stream to be cleaned and/or divided by size (typically three outlets, fine fraction, medium fraction, and over screen) automatically, without the presence of operators.

The drum screen consists of a cylindrical rotor rotating on 4 support wheels; the diameter, length, and inclination of the rotor should be chosen according to the product and the sorting to be performed.

The motion of the rotor subjects the incoming waste to continuous tipping toward the outlet: materials smaller than the screen plate holes are thus separated and collected by hoppers.

The rotary screen allows the material stream to be classified into two or more fractions:

  • under screen fraction – which can be divided into multiple outputs
  • over screen fraction

Operation of the drum screen

The types of waste that can be screened with the drum screen are:

Plastic
waste

Bottles
and flacons

Paper
and cardboard

Municipal
waste

Industrial
waste

RDF

The output streams that can thus be obtained from a drum screen are typically two:

Over screen

waste with dimensions greater than the screening holes

fine or under-screen fraction

Waste with a size smaller than the screening holes

Why choose the Parini drum screen

Using the Parini drum screen for waste sorting has many advantages, both from a productivity and maintenance point of view.

The construction process allows for the absence of vibration and mechanical stress to the rotor and wheels. This leads to quiet operation, low energy consumption, and long component life.

With references with every type of waste input and standardized rotor diameters from 1.5 to 3 m, the Parini rotary screen is a guarantee of reliability and productivity.

Productivity

  • effectiveness of waste separation thanks to the high rotation speed that separates agglomerates of different materials
  • uniform and constant distribution of the output material
  • effective and constant separation over time, with reduced maintenance

Maintenance

  • automatic greasing, routine maintenance reduced to rotor cleaning only
  • doors and flaps for safe access to the rotor, with internal lighting
  • devices to reduce the winding of filamentous materials

models

Parini drum screens are subdivided according to the diameter and length of the rotor. other possible standard configurations concern the advancement of the product inside the rotary screen, which can be by gravity, when the rotor has a slight inclination with respect to the horizontal, or thanks to a propeller spiral placed inside the rotor, when it is horizontal.
